My first year was a disaster

Yesterday I had a call with a guy who took a new job as a Salesforce Developer

He said “I can’t do any of tasks assigned to me. I am afraid about my job

I know what he means :)

My first year as a Salesforce Developer was a disaster

→ I had to rely all the time on my colleagues
→ I struggled to get any task done
→ I didn’t know if my code is the right way to write it

I lacked direction

Once you get hired - it’s not about practice anymore

It’s about two things:

  1. What topics to focus on

  2. How to solve them in a “real” way

Because no matter how well you are prepared

You will find a lot of unknown, unclear, hard tasks to solve on the job

→ You don’t know if the way to write code is what it is supposed to be

And that’s normal.

There is a big gap between writing code in the bootcamp, Trailhead or in the real-world.

The code in the real-world:
→ Doesn’t follow best-practices
→ Has many dependencies
→ Is not written by you

You can’t fix this problem by practicing more or solving more tasks

You can only solve it through two ways:
→ Figuring it out yourself
→ Getting a mentor

For me it was the last one, and it worked.

Does it mean you have to do it to become a good developer?

No, absolutely not.

Does it help to become a good developer faster? For sure.

I am opening 2 more spots for June mentoring.

If are from US, UK or Canada, work in Salesforce and want to move faster - reply “CODE” and I will send you more details on mentoring.

Here is what my new students after just one meeting:
