The framework of a great developer

How do I know if I am a good developer?

I got this question last week on the call with a Junior Developer, who just got his job

Here are signs of a good developer:

  1. Questioner

→ A good developer isn’t afraid to ask questions.
→ Even the most stupid questions.

  1. Strong opinions, loosely held

The best developers have very strong opinions.

→ It helps to come up with solutions quicker.

But they can change their opinion quickly if presented with real facts.

  1. Not biased

Flows, code, or any other automation has good and bad sides. The task of a developer is to make a decision for the best tool to solve the problem.

Many people think that developers only want to write code.

Yes, but only inexperienced developers.

Great developers will carefully think about the problem. And solve it in the best possible way - code or no code.

  1. Realistic

If something is good on paper, but doesn’t work in practice - you need to raise this concern.

I’ve been to a lot of companies that were speaking about AI, best practices, etc. But we all knew won’t work for them unless they fix e.g. data problem.

Raise your voice and be honest with the client.

  1. Growth mindset

Best developers always learn, read books, and watch videos.

10 minutes a minutes a day of learning will compound.

In 5 years you will be 10x better than your colleagues.

And for people with a growth mindset, I will open 10 more spots for the Force Developers community.

We have a mix of developers, admins, architects and consultants. We are all together on the way to change our career with coding.

Reply “FORCE” and I will send more details on how to join the community.
